Psalm 2 • The Anointed, The King, & The Son
The Psalmist poses a question about why nations and peoples plot against the Lord and his Anointed One, showcasing the futile rebellion of earthly rulers. God responds with a sense of irony, laughing from his heavenly throne, showing their efforts pose no real threat to him. Yet, he warns of impending judgment and establishes his Son as King overall. This Son, fulfilled in Jesus Christ, holds authority over nations and offers refuge to those who seek him, ensuring their happiness. The Psalmist advises kings and judges to serve the Lord with reverence and homage to the Son to avoid his anger. Despite Israel's exile, this Psalm reassures them of the Messiah's coming reign, urging them to find refuge in him. Looking back, we see this promise kept in Jesus, who took God's wrath on the cross, offering salvation to all who seek refuge in him. Through the cross, we find our ultimate salvation and refuge from judgment.
Main point: Those who seek refuge in the divine King will find the happy life.
