John 5:31-47 • Four Witnesses
Jul 14, 2024 • Mel Hennegan
Jesus provides several witnesses to his identity and divine authority:
1. The Witness of John the Baptist: Jesus refers to John's testimony about him, calling John "a burning and shining lamp" whose light the people enjoyed for a time (verses 33-35).
2. The Works of Jesus: The miracles and actions Jesus performs testify that the Father has sent him (verse 36).
3. The Witness of the Father: God the Father has testified about Jesus, though the people have not heard his voice or seen his form (verses 37-38).
4. The Witness of Scripture: Jesus says the Scriptures testify about him, but the people do not believe what they read (verses 39-40).
